THERE will be no evacuation of the area surrounding the major fire that has taken place in Hereford tonight.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said fears that toxic fumes were being emitted from the fire at Wyvern Tyres were unfounded.
But they are recommending residents close to the Holmer Trading Estate keep their windows closed as a precaution.
10 fire engines have attended the incident and fresh crews will continue their work shortly.
The blaze is adjacent to a railway line and trains have been stopped as there is debris on the track.
The single storey building was being used as a tyre and double glazing storage unit.
Covering jets have also been utilised to stop the fire spreading to nearby buildings.
The fire service has used two water carriers, an aerial ladder platform, and an environmental protection unit is at the scene.
They are stopping contaminated water entering drains and watercourses.
A stop message was confirmed at 9.33pm meaning firefighters believe the fire is under control and will not be requesting additional resources.
Arrangements have also been made for a structural engineer to attend.
It is thought firefighters will be in attendance throughout the night.
