A POPULAR event celebrating vintage vehicles and steam powered engines returned to the county this weekend.

Visitors to Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury were able to enjoy some nostalgia as the villages' steam and vintage fair took over the castle grounds on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29.

A spokesperson for Eastnor Castle said that between three and four thousand people attended across the two days.

The castle courtyard was taken up with an impressive line up of steam engines and classic cars, while families enjoyed giant garden games, model steam engine rides, a vintage carousel, old-fashioned dance workshops, pony rides and live music.

Steam wagons were in widespread use in the early part of the 20th century and were often used for commercial haulage.

They were a particularly British phenomenon, with very few manufacturers coming from outside Great Britain.

Although the majority of steam wagons have been scrapped, a significant number have been preserved in working order and may be seen in operation at steam fairs, particularly in the UK.

Alongside the entertainment on offer, visitors were afforded the opportunity to explore the historic castle and it's grounds.

There was also a tug of war tournament between visiting children and a steam engine.

David Littlewood, general manager of Eastnor Castle said: "The kids all really enjoyed the test of strength against the steam engine.

"The show was well attended over the two days and the weather was great bar a bit of rain on the Sunday.

"There was a fabulous atmosphere around the grounds and it was a great success."
