THE Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations are next weekend, and Herefordshire has many plans in place to celebrate the occasion.

Beacons

Towns and villages across Herefordshire will be lighting beacons to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on Thursday, June 2, at 9.45pm.

The Big Jubilee Lunch

Every year since the idea began in 2009 The Big Lunch has encouraged communities to celebrate their connections and get to know each other a little bit better, coming together in a spirit of fun and friendship.

In 2022 The Big Lunch will bring the Jubilee celebrations into the heart of every community.

Herefordshire Council and the Herefordshire Lieutenancy are encouraging residents to throw a street party to celebrate the The Queen's Big Jubilee Lunch.

People are invited to share friendship, food, and fun with neighbours as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

A Big Jubilee Lunch can be big or small - street party or picnic, tea and cake or a garden barbecue.

HEREFORD

Hereford City Life have organised two fun & interactive events from May 28 with a familyfriendly ‘Crown Around Town’ trail and ‘best dressed’ window competition over the half term and bank holiday weekend.

Tuesday May 31

The Waterworks Museum will be hosting lots of activities for young people including the Play and Learn Water Park, the Frog Trail and the Platinum Jubilee, Firefighting and Story of Water Quizzes.

For budding artists there’s a Jubilee drawing competition with small prizes for three age groups – under eight years, eight to 14 years and adults.

Engineering and history enthusiasts can enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of a Victorian waterworks with all steam and other engines working.

You can learn about what life was like in Hereford during World War Two in the Rotherwas exhibition, relax in the café or picnic in the grounds.

LEOMINSTER

The town will be holding Leominster Festival across the jubilee weekend.

Friday, June 3

The Lion Ballroom will host a Travel Talk with Joe Cocker and afternoon tea at 3pm. Tickets are £10 and available on the door.

A great big street quiz will take place in Broad Street at 7pm. Teams of six, and tickets are £2 per person.

The Meadows will be hosting a street party between 10am and 9pm, as will Pinsley Road between 4 and 9pm.

Saturday, June 4

there will be a Family Fun Day on The Grange from 11am to 3pm. Leominster ROARS will be there with stalls, activities, dog show, open mic music, food.

A echo colour run will also take place the Leisure Centre, in Bridge Street, at 10am, with a 5km, 2.5km and 1one km run to choose from.

Sunday, June 5

At 7pm in the Priory Church Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Mahler’s seventh Symphony.

Tickets cost £17 and under-16s are free, and available from Leominster Tourist Information.

All of Richmond Crescent will be closed for a party between noon and 5pm.

ROSS-ON-WYE

Thursday, June 2

Ross-on-Wye will light the Beacon, at the Prospect on Thursday, June 2, which will be one of over 2,022 lit by charities, communities, and faith groups all over the UK.

At 2pm the town crier will announce a specially written proclamation at the Market House heralding the lighting of the beacons later that day.

At 9.35pm at the Prospect in Ross-on-Wye a piper will play Diu Regnare, a unique tune specially written for the occasion by Piper Major Stuart Liddell, the world’s leading piper, then at 9.45pm the Beacon will be lit.

Friday, June 3

Camp Road will close for a party for residents between 10am and 9pm, alongside Waterside which will take place between noon and an unspecified time.

Saturday, June 4

Walford Avenue, Tudorville, will close for a street party between 9am and 11.30pm.

The southwestern half of Wye Street, by the bandstand, will close for a town council event between 5.30pm and 11pm.

Sunday, June 5

Merrivale Crescent will hold a street party between 11am and 5pm, as will Sussex Avenue between 9am and 6pm.

BROMYARD

Bromyard started its jubilee celebrations on April 30 with a beacon trail, followed by workshops at the conquest theatre.

Across the jubilee weekend Bromyard will be hosting its scarecrow festival and children’s jubilee hunt.

Sunday, May 29

The town will be hosting the Bromyard Speed Festival.

Thursday, June 2

At 9.45pm will be the lighting the beacon by Lady McFarlane. After this Bromyard Community Choir will sing Song for the Commonwealth followed by the National Anthem

Friday, June 3

The Bromyard Symphonic Wind Band Concert will also take place at 7.30pm in St Peter’s Church Bromyard, with music from the last 70 years.

Saturday, June 4

There will be a party on the green at 2pm followed by a street food market in the Square at 4pm.

Sunday, June 5

There will be an inaugural Bromyard outdoor market at 10am, then at 3.30pm a duck race will take place at the Conquest Theatre.

LEDBURY

Ledbury in Bloom had arranged for the hanging baskets, which are hung in the town every year, to be filled with red, white, and blue plants in recognition of the Jubilee. 

Twenty Union Jack flags are now flying along the High Street, as well as in Bye Street and New Street.

Special Platinum Jubilee bunting has gone up in Church Lane, and some of the hanging baskets posts have small Platinum memorabilia signs on them.

Both have been sourced from a charity that helps support Veterans and will be donated to local playgroups afterwards for creative crafting activities.

The Market House will also be decorated just ahead of the Jubilee Weekend.

Thursday, June 2

Talbert Road will close for a party between 9am and 9.30pm.

Friday, June 3

Ledbury will mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a picnic in the park.

The event will take place at Ledbury Recreation Ground from 2pm to 7pm.

Originally billed as a festival, there will still be live music as well as fun and games and “celebratory materials”, according to Ledbury Town Council.

Ledbury Rugby Club is hosting an afternoon tea between 2pm and 5pm. Tickets must be booked in advance via the club and are £15 per person or £20 with Prosecco.

Saturday, June 4

Ledbury community will take place in the Burgage and St Katherine’s Halls, the community hall and other venues in Ledbury. 

There will also be a town council stand at the Recreation Ground. 

Most venues will be open from 10am to 2pm.

Over 50 groups and organisations who serve Ledbury and District in all kinds of ways will join in to tell you what they do, how they can help you and how perhaps you can help them.

The community band will play, the bells will ring, the bowlers will bowl and the community choir will sing. 

There will be groups who can offer you advice and support with home-care, bereavement, energy efficiency, living sustainably, social activities, local church activities, the local Talk Community Hub and meditation with the Adhistana community. 

Local volunteer organisations will be looking for more people to help them including refugee support, the food bank and Guide Dogs. 

You will be able to explore all kinds of interests including the natural world, the canal, the theatre, cycling, sport, gardening, the heritage buildings and history, the arts, local food, local poetry hub, a local boy who became Poet Laurate and have a go bell-ringing.

For younger people theArmy Cadets and the Maritime Cadets will be there. For the very young people visit the Dream Your Future stand and Busy Bees.

Wildplay Living Crown making workshops will take place in Ledbury library between 10am and 12pm.

These will be family drop-in sessions, and there is no need to book.

Belle Orchard will be hosting a street party for an unspecified period.

The rugby club is also hosting a family fun day between 12pm and 6pm, featuring a bar and barbecue, inflatable assault course and bouncy castle, tombola, face painting, Brownies stall and lucky dip.

A Platinum Jubilee Fete is taking place at Queenswood in Cradley between 11am and 6pm and to round off the weekend.

There will be a picnic at 12pm on the Cradley Church lawn.

KINGTON

Friday, June 3

In Kington, there will be a party in Park Green between 10am and 9pm.

HAY-ON-WYE

Over the jubilee weekend two festivals will take place in Hay - Hay Festival and HowTheLightGetsIn.

Hay Town Council are putting on three days of community events celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Thursday, June 2

Choirs and a piper will play at 7pm at Memorial Square car park.

Friday, June 3

There will be a family fun day at the recreation grounds on Brecon Road.

Then a barbecue, live music, bouncy castle, ice cream and fun stuff with the bowls club, football club, youth club and lots more, including traditional fun games.

Saturday, June 4

A carnival parade will go around the town with a fancy dress theme is historic events over last 70 years. The parade starts at Cartref at 12.30pm and finishes in the memorial square car park, when judging will take place, by a surprise special guest.

It will be followed by the big bring your own picnic community lunch, with extra provided by the council and live music.

All events are free to residents, including afternoon tea, but alcohol, drinks, ice cream and food stalls from vendors will have a charge.

PEMBRIDGE

The people of Pembridge, near Leominster, are organising multiple events to mark 70 years of the reign of the Queen.

Thursday, June 2

The four-day weekend of events will be opened by the Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire Edward Harley, followed by a celebration jubilee tea on the village green.

KINGSLAND

The village of Kingsland, near Leominster, will be putting on an array of events from June 2 to June 5, including a street party and dog show.

Friday, June 3

A family bring-and-sahre lunch will take place at the Coronation Hall between 12pm and 4pm.

A fire engine will also make an appearance as well as a bouncy castle, cocktail bar and icecream van.

Sunday, June 5

At 11am there will be a service at the church followed by the planting of a tree.

From 1pm onwards on Millennium Green there wil be a picnic, a dog show and pet show.

At 1.30pm there will be a parade of horse-drawn and other vehicles starting from Luctonians Sports Club.

At 2pm the parade will pause by Millennium Green for fancy dress judging before continuing along the road.

North Road/Longford, will close for a party and parade between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

WELLINGTON

Sunday, May 29

A jubilee church fete and barbecue will take place from 12.30pm to 3pm at St Margaret’s Church, Wellington.

A bar, teas, plants, and stalls will be available as a part of the Queen’s Jubilee Wellington Community Fun Week.

Wednesday, June 1

A Jubilee Pram Race will be staged as part of Wellington Village Week at 6.30pm at the Social Club.

There are cash prizes for fastest and best dressed. Prams, wheelbarrow, tea trolleys, buggies etc are all welcome. Wellingtonians old and new, and friends of the village are invited to enter or view the race.

PETERCHURCH

Friday, June 3

A Spindrift Ceilidh band will play at the Hub between 8pm and 11pm.

Saturday, June 4

The village will be hosting a Royal Scarecrows in Picture Exhibition, and Jubilee Bunting, a Ceilidh, community picnic, drumming workshops, community choir, shoebox theatre, magic show, duck race and rock band on Saturday, June 4.

DINEDOR

Saturday, June 4

Residents of Dinedor will celebrate the jubilee at the Village Hall with a coffee morning from 10.30am to 12pm.

ORLETON

St George's Church is well known for the flower festivals it has held very successfully over past years.

This year Orleton is celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee from 11am-5pm each day. The theme will depict the palaces and houses of the House of Windsor.

The flower group consists of six enthusiastic, friendly flower arrangers, but Anna Read, their leader, would welcome more helpers.

STRETTON SUGWAS

Saturday, June 4

Stretton Sugwas will be hosting a Jubilee afternoon tea party from 2pm to 5pm in Stretton Sugwas Village Hall, a free fun community get together for residents of the parish.

Dress code of red, white and blue, with A Bake Off competition with a royal theme.

Thursday, June 2

Much Cowarne Women’s Institution is celebrating the Platinum Jubilee by the planting of a native tree in the church yard of Saint Mary’s Much Cowarne at 5.30pm prior to the Hymns and Pimm’s Service at 6pm.

Friday, June 3

In Kingstone village hall there will be a Jubilee concert at 7pm.

Sunday, June 5

AJubilee picnic will take place in the park at the village sports field from 1pm until late.

MONKLAND

Sunday, June 5

There is a Pet Service in All Saints Church at 11am as part of the Queen's Jubilee Celebrations and everyone is welcome.

KINGSTON

Friday, June 3

The Church of St Michael and All Angels is laying on a concert in the village hall at 7pm.

Saturday, June 4

The village hall has an open afternoon from 12pm to show what it can offer to residents.

Sunday, June 5

The key event in Kingston will be a Picnic in the Park on the Sports Field from 1pm which is free to all, with plenty of free parking, music all day, games and displays – bring your own picnic and drinks, tables and chairs and be dressed in your best red, white and blue.
