A FARE dodging passenger has been ordered to pay hundreds after failing to buy a ticket for his train journey.

Karl Gilson entered a guilty plea to magistrates in Cardiff.

The court heard the 25-year-old had travelled on a Transport for Wales rail service from Ledbury to Cardiff without paying his £29.90 fare and with intent to avoid paying it on November 6.

Gilson, who is of Oatleys Road, Ledbury, was fined £147 and ordered to pay compensation of £29.90.

He must also pay costs of £179 and a £34 victim surcharge.
