HEREFORDSHIRE petrol stations have dodged the effects of protestors blocking deliveries while this weekend’s Easter bank holiday could cause more disruption.

Herefordshire’s petrol stations are yet to experience a mass shortage as the neighbouring county of Worcestershire has.

Fuel shortages in Worcester continued for a fourth day on Friday (April 8) as drivers found pumps empty across the city.

But Morrisons petrol station, in Leominster, was understood to be closed at the weekend after a shortage of fuel as protesters blocked its deliveries.

We have asked Morrisons for comment, but they have not replied.

Activists from Just Stop Oil have been hampering access to oil terminals for days, demanding that the Government stops new fossil fuel projects.

The protests, along with similar action at other sites in April, have been blamed for fuel shortages at forecourts in parts of the country.

In a statement, Just Stop Oil said: “Over 400 people have joined actions that have succeeded in stopping operations for up to 24 hours at a time at 11 critical oil terminals that supply fuel to hundreds of petrol stations across the Midlands and south of England.

“As many as one in three petrol stations are being reported as shut in the south of England due to the disruption caused by the actions.”

The Hereford Times understands that on Saturday (April 9) Morrisons petrol station was closed due to lack of fuel.

While Asda’s forecourt in Hereford also had to close for a few hours last week as it waited for a delivery.

This weekend’s Easter getaway could also affect fuel consumption in the county as it will be the busiest on the UK’s roads in at least eight years, motorists are being warned.

An estimated 21.5 million leisure trips will be made by car between Good Friday and Easter Monday, the RAC said.

That is the most since the organisation began tracking motorists’ Easter plans in 2014.

But since Rishi Sunak’s pledge for a 5p drop in petrol prices last month Hereford petrol stations have neither dipped nor spiked in cost.
