A WOMAN from Hereford has said she is disgusted by the Government after her family missed her mother’s last birthday in 2020 shortly before Number 10 was said to be partying.

Emma Lewis could not celebrate her mum’s 80th birthday in 2020 as they would have done owing to Covid restrictions.

Marilyn Lewis turned 80 on May 5, 2020, just days before Boris Johnson and his staff were said to have held a garden party.

“My mother did not have the 80th we had been planning for a while,” said Ms Lewis.

“She did not have family, friends and neighbours in attendance as she had wanted because we followed the rules that Boris Johnson and his cabinet had made.

“We understood them, even if the rule makers did not.”

She described her mum as “the party queen” who was always the one to arrange street parties in her cul-de-sac for any occasion.

Yet when it came to her 80th family, friends and neighbours left gifts and cards outside.

The family thought they would have a chance to have a party for her 81st but Marilyn caught Covid in Hereford County Hospital and died on February 12, 2021.

Her funeral could only have 30 people and there was no wake.

Other than an apology in Parliament earlier this month, Boris Johnson has repeatedly said he would wait to make a statement to the House of Commons until Sue Gray handed over an inquiry into the alleged parties. The Met Police has also confirmed it is investigating possible breaches.

Elsewhere, Herefordshire primary schools are dealing with partial closures after a rise in the number of Covid cases.

Dr Rob Patterson, executive headteacher at Wigmore Primary School, said three year groups had to return to home learning as staff tested positive.

He said Herefordshire Council was reporting primary schools were being more affected this term than secondaries, with the majority of teenagers taking up the offer of Covid jab.

Other primary schools to be partially closed due to coronavirus cases include Llangrove CE Academy, Hereford’s St Francis Xavier and Stoke Prior.
