A HEREFORDSHIRE town's revamped Christmas lights have been officially switched on with a countdown lead by the High Sheriff.

Kington's Christmas lights had new lease of life after the town council agreed to spend £15,000 a year until 2024.

Herefordshire High Sheriff Jo Hilditch and Kington Town Council festive lights committee chairman Richard Banks led a countdown to the switch on on Saturday.

A large crowd joined in with the count and were not disappointed as the bright new colourful lights lit up the faces of all ages. Looking on were Mayor Bob Widdowson and chamber of trade chairman Emma Hancocks.

Gin and tonic, hot chocolate and mince pies were served by chamber of trade vice chairman Gareth Clark, with singing from the Kington Community Choir.
