ONLY six of the 89 bus services in the county have not returned to pre-pandemic frequencies and DRM operate two of them (and they only operate three services!).

Their operation of the 476 Ledbury-Hereford service is appalling, it is operated commercially but they are happy to accept Herefordshire Council’s money for the free weekend services but not to reinstate an hourly service.

OTHER NEWS:

On Saturdays the bus is full before it even leaves Ledbury with no chance of boarding if you live in Tarrington or Lugwardine.

This defeats the object of the excellent Herefordshire Council initiative of free weekend bus travel as if you cannot board the bus or it is standing room only you will be deterred from using the bus in future – the exact opposite of what was intended.

With regard to the ladies affected by the decision by Yeomans to withdraw the 71A from White Horse Street because of inconsiderate parking (which also affects residents at the top end of Westfaling St to St Stephens Close) I can appreciate the reasoning behind Yeomans’ decision, but the comment by Herefordshire Council that they do not ‘operate or fund the 71A service’ is both true but disingenuous.

They have an obligation under the 1986 Transport Act to provide services where a commercial operator is not prepared to do so.

As Sheila Taylor said, there are plenty of buses operating along Whitecross Road why not divert the 437 Hereford-Tillington service (already funded by the council) to run via Barton Road and Westfaling Street?
