IN RESPONSE to councillor John Harrington’s article “Bypass and no going back” I sincerely hope this will come back to the table and I'm convinced it is the only sensible option for Hereford traffic and the environment.
One only has to look at the beneficial impact the Newtown bypass has had on ridding this the town of congestion, fumes and frustration.
RELATED NEWS:
Until this was completed some three years ago it could take an hour to pass through with slow moving traffic polluting the streets with emissions.
I pass through this town on a regular basis and the transformation has been tremendous.
Four weeks ago I drove through the centre there at peak time which took less than 10 minutes.
The other great benefit is that cyclists and pedestrians are now using the space freed up by the bypass.
The area around the Newtown bypass has been successfully replanted creating a wonderful bio-diversity which is now benefitting from green planting with trees and grasses.
An Eastern bridge on its own is a total waste of money and if it is not intended for HGVs what purpose does it serve? Especially for Rotherwas.
A bypass for Hereford is the right way to go forwards and not going back.
