A LORRY fire closed the M5 southbound this morning, causing long traffic delays.
The motorway was closed southbound between junctions five and six after a lorry carrying 28 tonnes of bitumen caught fire at 4.44am.
Multiple fire crews were called to the scene, where they used foam, four breathing apparatus, and two hose reels to fight the blaze.
There are currently long delays, three lanes closed and queueing traffic for eight miles due to the fire on M5 Southbound between J5 A38 (Droitwich / Wychbold) and J6 A4538 Pershore Lane (Worcester).
There is also congestion to local roads around Droitwich and Martin Hussingtree as traffic diverts through the area and queueing on the Worcester Road, approaching from Bromsgrove.
