EMERGENCY services were called out in Herefordshire after heavy rain hit the county overnight.

Last night (October 4) Leominster firefighters were called to pump water out from Bargates road in Leominster town.

Environment agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Dave Throup tweeted: “Yesterday & last night’s rain. Fairly narrow band of 25-30mm of rain, much of which fell in a few hours last night. Some smaller rivers reacting and quite a lot of surface water flooding. Take care if out early.”

The fire service has advised people to “take care when driving this morning, drive to the conditions presented.”

After the heavy rainfall a tree has fallen in May Hill, on the Herefordshire border with Gloucester, blocking the road between the GlassHouse pub and Clifford Mesne.

Gloucester police have said the road will be closed until the tree can be removed.

They have advised drivers to find alternative routes if they are travelling around the area.

Hereford Highways have tweeted the road is closed in The Sheepcote, in Putley due to a fallen tree across the road.

Hereford Highways have also tweeted another tree has fallen and caused closures on B4220 between Bosbury and the A4103.

Another road has closed due to a oak tree fallen across the highway of the B4214, in Staplow, Bromyard.

UPDATE: The B4214 in Staplow, Bromyard, has now reopened.

According to the Met Office, Herefordshire is not forecast any rain for the forseeable, only sun and cloud.

UPDATE: The C1140 from A4103 to the Worcestershire boundry has closed due to a large tree overhanging the carriageway.
