VIDEO footage and photographs show litter discarded in a Herefordshire woodland.

Nick Wood, of Chilton Square in Hereford, said he'd received photographs and video footage of the litter in Haugh Woods from his carer David Dytwinski.

Mr Dytwinski had found the litter when he went mushroom-picking in the woods.

Mr Wood said: "I'm a wheelchair user, when my carer went to pick mushrooms, all he found were bags of dog poo, condoms, cigarette packets and general litter left around the woods.

Mr Dytwinski said that he'd found litter dumped in the woodlands on numerous visits there.

He said: "It was bad each time I went. There was rubbish just left around the woods. This place is supposed to be for animals to live in"

"It's disgraceful behaviour. I'd like my niece and her parents to be able to walk their dog there without rubbish lying around"

Mr Wood said those responsible for Haugh Wood needed to make sure that litter is removed.

He said: "Whoever owns these woods needs to clear them up."

Haugh Woods (pronounced Hoff Woods) is seven miles to the east of Hereford and is a popular walking destination.

The woods, at nearly 350 hectares (850 acres), is nationally important for butterflies and moths, with over 600 species recorded within it.

This makes the wood one of the top 10 woods in the country and is designated as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) due to the presence of these invertebrates.

Forestry England, who manage Haugh Woods, have been approached for comment.
