A ROAD in Ross-on-Wye will have temporary traffic lights for at least another six weeks as work to prevent rock falls is carried out.

Wilton Road, a main route into the town, was reduced to one lane due to the unsafe rockface.

Ross-on-Wye Town Council said concrete barriers and mesh panels would help protect the public while surveys were carried out.

Herefordshire Council contractor Balfour Beatty Living Places said it would be up to six weeks until the barriers arrived. Traffic would then return to two-way, but on-street parking suspended.

The council said Balfour Beatty appreciated the impact on locals and visitors, but it wanted to find a suitable, long-term solution".

Balfour Beatty Living Places said: “We appreciate that impact this is having on the residents and visitors to Ross and the team are working hard to ensure a suitable and long-term solution, and it is important that vehicles and pedestrians are kept away from this rock face for their own safety.”
