A DRIVER has been banned from the roads after driving while over the drug-drive limit.

Kristian Jones, 38, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty at Hereford Magistrates Court to driving a Renault Clio on Whitecross Road when the proportion of cocaine metabolite in his blood was over the legal limit.

Prosecutor, Melanie Winterflood, told the court that on March 29, police were alerted by members of the public of a gentleman displaying unusual behaviour, including jumping on his car bonnet.

She said police found Jones sat in the driver's seat of his car.

She said officers were concerned by how he was behaving and took the keys away.

Police administered a roadside drug wipe, which gave back a positive reading.

A further drug test was taken in police custody, which gave a reading of over 800 micrograms in a litre of blood, exceeding the legal limit of 50.

The prosecutor said Jones had a previous drink driving offence dating back to June 2011.

Defence solicitor, George Cousins, said Jones has great difficulty sleeping and takes drugs in view of forgetting his problems.

He said the 38-year-old accepted his behaviour was erratic, but puts this down to sleep deprivation.

He said that Jones had stopped his car of his own accord as he couldn't drive any further.

Jones was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £135. He must also pay costs of £120 and a surcharge of £34.
