A THREE-DAY music festival will celebrate the life of an avid rugby player who was killed in an accident at just 20-years-old.

OllieFest is due to take place in Ross-on-Wye this weekend to celebrate the life of loved son and friend Ollie Floyd.

Ollie passed away in 2015 after his agricultural vehicle rolled into a lake at Celtic Manor Resort golf course in Newport.

Family and friends are keeping his memory alive with the annual three-day music festival held at Ross rugby club.

Friend and festival organiser, Gavin Oates said: “It was all built on remembering Ollie and his love for rugby.”

Ollie played at Drybrook during his childhood, then joined Ross Rugby club later in life.

Originally, the club decided to hold a rugby match in his memory and the festival developed from here.

“The first one we had 300-400 people turn up then every year after that it got bigger and bigger,” said Mr Oates.

This year they are expecting over 5000 people a day, he said.

Ollie’s parents Nick and Hailey Floyd are also avid rugby fans.

“Nick was massively involved with Ross rugby, and his grandfather was one of the ex-presidents, so their history with the club goes back a long way,” said Mr Oates.

Previously OllieFest was free, this year they are charging due to costs.

Different local businesses have donated and helped with expenses over the years.

“Really they’re the key people that built the OllieFest up,” said Gavin.

The festival has not yet chosen a charity.

“We’ve been struggling to get a charity to support us,” said Mr Oates.

Unaware of the money they will make, the organisers did not want to commit to one charity, they will see how much money is made at the end of the festival and split it between multiple charities, he said.

Over the course of the weekend there will be over 40 bands and music artists across three stages.

Organisers plan to continue OllieFest in future years.
