A Herefordshire couple are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.

Gordon and Syvlia Treacy of Orleton are celebrating 60 years of marriage. However, the occasion recently has taken on extra significance.

Nine weeks ago Gordon Treacy (former director of Greenalls, past Chair of Governors at Ludlow Infants School and former member of Ludlow Round Table and Ludlow Choral Society) suffered a debilitating stroke following a routine heart operation.

Covid-19 restrictions meant Sylvia, Gordon’s wife, could only visit him on a couple of occasions at The Princess Royal in Telford.

Sylvia received a congratulatory card from the Queen and managed to persuade the hospital to allow her to visit Gordon for a short while so they could be together on their special day.

This time, a real dream came true when the Occupational Therapist and doctors said Gordon was medically fit and he could go home with Sylvia.

After many tears of joy, Sylvia brought Gordon back to the couples home in Orleton.

Together they opened their many cards, gifts and flowers from friends and family and spent a diamond evening together.
