How the bridge would look across the river for the Hereford bypass
THE Newbury bypass was completed in 1996.
By 2003, traffic in the city centre had returned to pre-bypass levels.
In the meantime, the bypass had created new bottlenecks on nearby roads, and more long-distance commuting had been generated.
Those (still!) calling for a Hereford bypass are on the
wrong side of history.
