A MAN who used cannabis as pain medication has been banned from the roads.

Adam John Eric Jenks admitted drug-driving when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Jenks had been driving a Peugeot 307 in Hereford's College Road at around 10pm on February 18 when he was stopped by police, prosecutor Shafquat Reaz said.

He was asked to provide a roadside drug test and was arrested when it returned a positive result for cannabis. An evidential blood test revealed he had 3.3 microgrammes of cannabis metabolite delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol per litre of blood. The legal limit is two.

Marilena Di Vitantonio, for Jenks, said the 39-year-old had fully cooperated with police.

"He has never been before the courts before," she said.

"He says he suffers from sciatica and takes strong painkillers. He uses cannabis to help with that and to help him sleep, but he is not a regular user.

"He knows he will be disqualified and he has put in place a plan to allow him to get to and from work, but is not sure how long that will last."

Jenks, of Chainmakers Gate, Telford, was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £120. He must also pay costs of £135 and a £34 victim surcharge.
