BROMYARD's leisure centre has been hit by flooding, just days after reopening.

The Bromyard Centre was closed for more than a year after closing in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But while other leisure centres reopened, the Bromyard Halo site was kept closed due to ongoing work to repair damage to the roof.

Herefordshire Council, which owns the Cruxwell Street building, said internal damage was caused by "severe and deliberate damage" caused to the roof by vandals.

And a spokesperson said that the centre would reopen on Friday (July 23).

Speaking ahead of its reopening on July 23, a council spokesperson said: "Contractors working on behalf of the Council have made the building watertight and repaired the substantial water damage caused by the vandalism."

But, just days after reopening, water has again made its way in to the centre through the roof again after thunderstorms hit Bromyard this evening.

Video footage shows water coming from the ceiling and pooling on the floor of the building after the heavy rainfall, while firefighters were also called to the building.

A Halo spokesperson said: "The Bromyard Centre will be CLOSED tomorrow (Tuesday 27th July). Sorry we have to close, but it is out of our hands due to flooding. Please help us to spread the word by forwarding this message onto people who need to know.

"Updates will be given tomorrow afternoon. Keep an eye out on Facebook, on the Halo Leisure app and our Halo website for all the information you need."
