HEREFORDSHIRE is set for a day of torrential rain as a week-long heatwave comes to an end.

The Met Office has issued two yellow weather warnings for Herefordshire across the weekend as storms look set to hit.

Heavy rain and thundery showers are expected to batter the county just days after temperatures soared to 30C.

According to the forecaster, there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

From 8pm on Friday until 10pm on Saturday, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in Herefordshire, with all but the far north of the county covered.

It's warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms which could lead to some disruption and flooding.

The Met Office says spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, and flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes or hail.

Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services, it said, and power cuts would be a possibility.

From 9am on Sunday, a second yellow weather warning for thunderstorms will come into force, covering much of southern England, incuding Ledbury and Ross-on-Wye.
