PEOPLE living in one Herefordshire village have been told they need to join in the effort to "stamp out" antisocial parking near the primary school.

Ewyas Harold Parish Council said West Mercia Police had been in the Golden Valley village trying to tackle the issue, but locals needed to help push the message to get through to ignorant or unaware drivers.

The council said everyone needed to "work hard to stamp out antisocial parking practices in the centre of the village and to encourage people to use the car park at the recreation ground as a drop off point for the school, the chip shop, the pub" and other amenities.

A council spokesperson said it was "great" police were engaging with locals, and said that some drivers had been spoken to.

"Hopefully the police presence will be an ongoing thing as we all need to tackle this situation for the benefit of children and of course vitally for the emergency services should they need quick access to an emergency," they said.

It urged all villagers to help the local community by stressing the message to anyone who may, either through ignorance or lack of awareness, be contributing to this problem.

"Finally it’s also worth mentioning that to save some fuel and minimise diesel particulate production near young children, that all parents switch off engines when picking up their little ones," the spokesperson said.
