I MUST question two of the responses to my previous letter (Hereford Times, June 10).

Janette Ward (June 17) appears to contradict her own perception that over consumption and waste but not overpopulation are the biggest contributors to global warming. The one seems synonymous with the other.

Karen Rock (June 17) dismisses my comments as untrue. She needs to read the climate opinion of Bast and Ferrara, senior fellows at the Heartland Institute, published in the Wall Street Journal 2018.

She may glean the huge benefits to the economy, health and welfare enjoyed by huge numbers of the population from the consumption of fossil fuels.

They include the reduction in deaths of large numbers of people from the effects of cold weather.

The way forward for climate fanatics with itchy feet is slowly, slowly catchy monkey.

Reduce emissions gradually and proportionately, yes; eliminate for the sake of elimination, no.

The planet will evolve and survive; it always has and always will.

Civilisation is not enhanced by the selfish actions and anti-social behaviour of fanatics like Extinction Rebellion.

Life envisioned by anarchic climate zealots is frightening.

Remember, without the past use of fossil fuels life as it is today would not exist.
