TWO academic worlds collided at Lady Hawkins High School in Kington when pupils made a sculpture symbolising the artistic and the scientific.

Designed by year nine students the final piece, created with the help of local coppersmith Richard Taylor, has been installed at the school entrance.

Art teacher Anne Radziwonik helped pupils devise a Moths and the Moon' theme to reflect links between art and science, and secured grants from the Partical Physics and Astronomy Research Council and the Institute of Physics to fund the project.

Anne said: "It looks so lovely we are hoping to get it floodlit."
