I was exasperated by Gary Cullen's letter of misinformation and deflection (Hereford Times, June 10) in which he rudely dismissed the world's climate scientists, environmentalists and other relevant specialists as "bleating fanatics".

He purports there are published "views" that actually fossil fuels are beneficial to the climate. This is simply not true, and perfectly illustrates why Extinction Rebellion’s first demand – that governments tell the truth is so necessary.

We don't need "views". We need to be aware of, listen and act upon scientifically validated peer-reviewed research.

Mr Cullen believes climate crisis is negotiable, and a compromise possible.

This is not true. Nature does not negotiate.

He is correct that scientists are reluctant to make set predictions, but he mistakes modelling and trends as somehow open to interpretation.

Every research modelling done shows increasingly shorter time scales and increased catastrophic effects and is, without any doubt, linked to fossil fuel use.

They are catastrophic effects that will destroy global food production and lead to widespread global famine, which will lead to severe weather destroying roads for those cars and the unsustainable Ponzi scheme that focuses on constant growth and over consumption as the foundation of our economy.

If Mr Cullen is exasperated by bleating, he is going to feel really rather miffed when the impacts of climate crisis lead to social collapse (as models suggest will happen).

Surely better to have the facts, and act now to mitigate as scientists tell us may still be possible? Treat Climate Emergency as an actual emergency?
