HEREFORD'S Lidl supermarket is closing for five months, with staff being moved to "nearby" stores.

Work on the extension and modernisation of the existing Lidl in Brook Retail Park will begin next month, the budget supermarket.

It said there would be an "overall improvement to the shopping experience" once the works are complete.

In order for the improvement works to take place, the store will be closed from Sunday, May 9 for around five months, with a view to reopening in the autumn.

The works will see the sales area increase to 1,104m2, and new facilities introduced to the store, such as a customer toilet, an improved fresh offering and a larger bakery section.

Staff will be working at nearby Lidl stores until work is complete, a spokesperson said.

Lidl's closest supermarkets to Hereford include, Coleford, Monmouth, Cinderford, Malvern, Gloucester and Worcester.
