A HEREFORDSHIRE co-ownership housing association wants to build more low-cost homes on their site.

Windflower Housing Association has applied to Herefordshire Council for permission to convert two outbuildings into three homes at Canon Frome Court, in Canon Frome near Ledbury.

Their planned works include replacing the lean-to extension to the former workshop with single storey extension and enclosing the open courtyard attached to the former dairy with a new flat roof.

Canon Frome Court is a grade II listed Georgian manor and a 40-acre organic farm.

The house, stable block and several cottages on the site make up a community of 20 self-contained homes.

The land is farmed cooperatively and organically by the residents. The site also includes shared facilities and the community make decisions together on a weekly basis.

“The community are keen to diversify and strengthen their membership by building more affordable, low-cost units on the site,” the design and access statement reads.

“Having more younger people within the community will help the community manage the farming and upkeep for the community grounds.

“To this end, they have received a community housing fund grant to obtain planning consent for the conversion of two existing outbuildings into three separate dwellings.

“The storage lost from these existing outbuildings will be relocated into other existing stores which will require some modifications to be fit for purpose.”

The housing association is also applying for listed building consent.

People have until May 11 to comment on the proposals and can do so by visiting Herefordshire Council’s planning portal.
