INTEREST in parish councils has spiked after footage of a chaotic meeting went viral on social media.

A clip of an argument at a Handforth Parish Council meeting in Cheshire has been seen more than two million times.

In Herefordshire there are 137 democratically elected parish councils.

Parish councils are run by councillors who volunteer to make their community a better place.

Each of the market towns in Herefordshire has a parish council along with Hereford.

These five town councils and the city council each has a mayor.

Their work includes representing the community, delivering some services and striving to improve the quality of life in the parish.

Each parish council will have different needs, which are often identified through the parish plan process.
