A BLANKET of snow and sub-zero temperatures overnight have left some Herefordshire schools with no choice but to close to all pupils today.

While schools are closed to most pupils due to the coronavirus lockdown in England, most remain open to provide for vulnerable children and those of key workers.

One secondary school is closed today (Monday, January 25) due to fears over site safety, with a handful of primary schools making the same decision.

Here's a full list of the schools closed in Herefordshire today:

  • Almeley Primary School (no heating)
  • Bredenbury Primary School (weather conditions)
  • Eardisley CE Primary School (no heating)
  • Leominster Primary School (weather conditions and health and safety issues)
  • Llangrove CE Academy (treacherous driving conditions)
  • Pencombe CE Primary School (dangerous conditions of the local roads)
  • Queen Elizabeth High School (adverse conditions affecting site safety)
  • St Michael's CE Primary School (approach roads surrounding school are covered with compacted snow which has frozen overnight)
  • St Peter's Primary School (adverse conditions affecting site safety)
  • Wellington Primary School (weather conditions and health and safety issues)

The majority of pupils were already learning from home, with those affected by school closures also asked to today.
