FIREFIGHTERS have tackled an out-of-control fire in a woodburner in a Herefordshire village.

Two Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue service crews were called to Lyne Down in Much Marcle at 8.06pm on Thursday evening to reports of the fire.

A fire service spokesperson said crews from Fownhope and Ross-on-Wye attended to tackle "a woodburner well alight at a house in Much Marcle".

"The woodburner was emptied and removed by fire service personnel," they added.

"Access was gained to the roof of the property with the fire tackled using two hosereel jets.

"A thermal imaging camera was used to check a neighbouring property. There were no casualties and the incident was closed at 11.34pm."

Sharing pictures of the fire on Facebook, Fownhope fire station added the homeowner was grateful for their quick response.

"A big shout out to the Fownhope fire brigade," a message to the station said.

"Thank you for explaining the situation this evening and making me feel calm at the chimney fire in Much Marcle.

"Pat on the back for all the hard work you do. A big shout-out of appreciation."
