HEREFORD'S MP has praised a pharmacy in the city for taking pressure off the NHS during the coronavirus pandemic.

Jesse Norman, MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire, visited the Day Lewis pharmacy in Grandstand Road to learn more about its vital role in the community and the efforts it went to during the pandemic.

The pharmacy said it continues its vital work through the pandemic, and did come under significant pressures.

Staff delivered more than 1,000 essential items to vulnerable people stuck at home, and gave over 300 flu vaccinations. The pharmacy said it also created a safe space for women at risk, to speak about their issues.

Day Lewis Pharmacy is a member of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (“AIMp”), who represent and provide support to local multiple pharmacies across the UK.

Jesse Norman said: “We should all be proud of local AIMp pharmacies such as Day Lewis, who have kept their doors open throughout the pandemic and have taken the burden off the NHS.

"They are the pillar of the community and we look forward to see what role they will play in the role out of the COVID-19 vaccination programme.”

Leyla Hannbeck, CEO of AIMp, added: “It is great to see Jesse Norman visiting one of our members in his constituency to see for himself how pharmacy teams have gone over and beyond during this pandemic showing agility and resilience to deliver care in their communities.

"Pharmacies are the front door to the NHS and we are keen to engage with the Financial Secretary to support us get this message across to those in the position of power, so that our sector can continue delivering the much needed care in the communities and be a solution for the NHS.”
