ANOTHER coronavirus death has been recorded at a hospital in Herefordshire, the latest figures show.

NHS England data shows 76 people had died in hospital at Wye Valley NHS Trust as of 4pm on Wednesday (December 2).

That was an increase of one compared to the 75 that had been recorded at the same point on Tuesday.

It is the second day in a row that a new death has been reported at the trust.

The patient, who had tested positive for coronavirus, died on November 26, after a death that took place on November 29 was reported by the trust yesterday.

The victims were among 8,602 deaths recorded across the midlands, which is the worst affected of England's seven NHS regions. The toll rose by 83 over the 24-hour period.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

Across England, 41,605 hospital patients are known to have died in hospital after a positive coronavirus test. This figure rose by 295 over the past 24 hours.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."

Only deaths that occur in hospitals where the patient has tested positive for Covid-19 are recorded, with deaths in the community excluded, such as those in care homes.

Latest figures from the NHS showed the number of people in hospital in Herefordshire with coronavirus had risen to 27 as of Tuesday (November 24), one more than at the start of the month.
