A RESTAURANT is one of the first in Hereford to continue offering half-price food throughout September after the success of a government discount scheme.

The Den in Bridge Street has extended the 50 per cent off discount for another month after an overwhelming reception to the Government’s Eat Out To Help Out scheme in August.

Owner and director Harry Wolfe Murray said the initial scheme, which ended on August 31, was a huge boost for the independent restaurant, and the reaction to its extension popular with customers.

“We’re doing it just on food and it’s a similar concept to what we were doing in August – 50 per cent off up to £10 per head,” he said.

“We’re doing it all day from breakfast to dinner Monday to Wednesday.”

Saying the scheme helped massively in August, Mr Wolfe Murray, 30, added: “It was a really successful and we were fully booked every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

“September can generally be quite quiet, so we did our figures and worked out we’d still be making a decent profit.”

For The Den, which moved to new premises in Bridge Street, the scheme helped entice diners back out again after the coronavirus lockdown.

With hand sanitising stations, a system for taking contact details for NHS Test and Trace as well as social distancing between tables, the restaurant has been following Covid secure guidelines.
