A JAZZ artists will be the keynote speaker at a health conference in Hereford.

For the event at the the College of Arts will be discussing the power of music to improve people's health and well-being.

The Music, Wellbeing and Mental Health Conference on May 11 and 12 will be exploring how performing, creating, or listening to music can improve mental health and promote well-being.

Music is known to abe able to help people cope with stress, provide emotional well-being in adolescents, challenge cognitive decline in dementia patients, and help people better manage pain.

There will be live performances and keynote speaker Sarah Gail Brand, who began playing the trombone in 1979 and qualified as a Music Therapist in 2001. She has worked in special needs education and adult psychiatric and learning disability services in the NHS and currently runs a private music therapy practice.

She has performed on the international Jazz and Improvised Music scene for over 25 years.
