HEREFORD'S Green Dragon Hotel has produced the first video in what it hopes will become a collection capturing people's memories of the much-loved building.

In the film Alvis Evans, who was born in nearby St Nicholas Street, recalls her first visit to the hotel when she was 17 years old.

"My mother was ill, and my father was organising a dance, and he took me in my mother's place," she says.

She recalls standing with her dad at the the hotel stairs wearing a borrowed blue taffeta dress and feeling very proud.

Ms Evans goes on to talk movingly of her love of Herefordshire, and the Green Dragon, which she describes as Herefordshire's "lodestone, its cultural centre".

The hotel's new owners have begun a £2.5m investment in the 19th century building, which is held fondly in the affections of the generations of local people who have attended celebrations there.

The revamp will include the brasserie restaurant, current bar, lobby, lounge and the Offa Bar.
