THOUSANDS of people enjoyed a glorious day of farming fun in the sun today at The Midlands' favourite family-friendly farming event, CountryTastic.

The event was a sell-out success, with more than 5,500 people heading to Three Counties Showground, in Malvern, to get up close and personal with some friendly farmyard favourites.

TV presenter and Cotswold Farm Park's Adam Henson was on hand to answer youngsters' farming questions in the 'Ask the Farmer' classroom.

The show's theme was Horses and Ponies, so there were plenty of opportunities to learn all about things equine - including discovering different breeds and how to look after them, from huge heavy horses to tiny Shetland ponies.

Visitors were thrilled to meet the Gloucestershire Constabulary Mounted Police, who were answered questions and explained how their horses play an important role in local policing.

People were encouraged to try their hand at grooming ponies and could meet a local farrier to find out about shoeing horses.

Head of Shows at Three Counties Showground, Diana Walton said: "It's been such a perfect day – the sun was shining and families were out in force to learn more about their favourite farmyard friends.

"We're always thrilled to see our younger visitors having a wonderful time learning a little more about life in the countryside.

"It's been uplifting to see so many families out enjoying the day – it's such a unique opportunity to get hands on with the animals. We've had so much positive feedback, particularly around the range of activities we've had on offer at the show, and Adam is always a huge hit with everyone. It's been perfect.

Children were able to experience what life is like as a farmer with the Parades of Livestock, Pig Agility ring and mock livestock market having kids eager to meet and learn about farmyard animals from around Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Herefordshire.

Other highlights at the show included the ever-popular tractor and trailer rides, the amazing Mid Western Gundog Display team, den building and cookery workshops. Other attractions included clay modelling and the play barn featured a range of free activities including make and take crafts, hula hooping and painting with Junk Fish. New to the show this year, youngsters were able to try their hand at cricket sessions with Worcester Cricket Club.
