AN UNFORTUNATE accident between two high-end vehicles at Bromyard Speed Festival this Sunday, when a Bentley crashed into the side of a BMW i8.

Damage was caused to the front of the Bentley and the side of the plug-in hybrid BMW, which sells for around £114,000.

But the incident failed to dampen the spirits of the crowds who flocked to take in the sights, smells and sounds as vehicles great and small cruised through Bromyard's narrow streets.

The brainchild of current chairman Graham Hodgson-Jones, the event has grown into a major attraction for the county, drawing thousands of visitors to Bromyard.

Over 100 vehicles, ranging from pre-war to brand-new, roared through the town in a tribute to the town's significant motoring heritage.

The chairmen of the Austin, Bean and Morgan motor companies all lived locally, whilst chassis components for the 1910 Morgan Three Wheeler were made in the town by the Pettifer family and Italian motorcycle manufacturer Laverda's UK base was also near the town.

This year's festival celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of the Mini, featuring a carefully planned re-creation of the bank robbery scenes from the iconic 1960s movie, The Italian Job.

The festival also paid tribute to Bromyard-born motorsport great, Barrie 'Whizzo' Williams, who died last year aged 79.

25 cars and motorcycles joined the tribute to the racing ace, whose father ran an engineering business in Bromyard.
