A small Herefordshire care home has scooped a top national award.

Marion Payne, from Kington's Garth Nursing Home, won the Dignity in Care category in the Great British Care Awards.

Garth's owners say they are delighted their family-run home has pulled off such a prestigious success.

"It's a real testament to Marion personally, and also the team at the Garth which she represents.

"We have ‘one chance to get it right’ and this is the ethos of the whole team who strive for excellence in the care provided."

The purpose of the awards is to promote best practice within both home care and care homes sectors, and pays tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

After the awards event in Birmingham the Garth staged its own celebration and presentation evening with residents and families.
