THE twice monthly craft club held in Crossgates for members of the Powys Radnor Federation WI had a special visitor recently from Wales NHS.

Elise Pryor, infant feeding co-ordinator and health visitor, based in Llanidloes, had been invited to come to the meeting to collect knitted boobs which the health visitors use in the teaching of breast feeding to new mothers.

The 12 members present, with two visitors from the Rhayader based Crafting Cousins (also a mainly WI member group), had knitted the different shape, size and colour boobs for mum's to practice the technique for putting baby to the breast without hurting themselves, or baby, in the process.

Previous requests for knitted aids from the nursing profession had members making up premature baby jackets and blankets. They also knitted twiddle muffs and aprons for dementia patients with a newer request for drainage bag covers for colostomy bags joining the list.

Elise promised to get back to the group with any other knitting requests in particular for more boobs so that each of her practitioners could have one for demonstrating purposes.

The next venture is scarves, mitts, gloves, wrist warmers and blankets for the homeless with Knitting for Charity being the aim of the craft club.
