Adultery is booming in Herefordshire, according to 'infidelity experts'.

A 'cheating map' claims 2,908 people in Hereford are having an affair - up 11% on last year.

And figures from other towns across the county paint a similar picture of more people cheating.

The figures suggest around 4,000 people across the county are having an affair.

The map has been created by a dating website for married couples called Illicitencounters, who claim to be an 'authority on infidelity.'

The site says it has more than 1 million members.

If the figures are accurate, Hereford ranks as 28th in the infidelity league for UK cities, with 1.29% of the population cheating.

St Albans - of all places - is top with 2.74% while Worcester can only make 42nd with 0.87%.

Nowhere in Herefordshire's makes the top fifty in the towns infidelity league.

Ross has the highest number of cheaters in our county towns with 289, beating Leominster's 264.

Other local town figures are: Ledbury 185, Bromyard 95, Kington 43, Hay 147.

IllicitEncounters spokesman Christian Grant said: ““Lots of couples in Herefordshire cannot afford to divorce due to the cost of establishing two new homes, so they are sticking with their partner and adding some spice to their marriage by discreetly having an affair.

“Both sides can have some fun without upsetting things at home.”

IllicitEncounters says it has seen a 25% surge in registrations in the last five years.

An interactive Infidelity Index allows users to search a city, town or postcode to discover how many people are having affairs locally.
