STORM Freya brought strong winds of up to 50mph to Herefordshire.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning for the county, which meant some travel disruption and dangerous conditions were possible late Sunday and into Monday.

Forecasters predicted the storm, which hit yesterday afternoon, would be severe enough to risk injuries and danger to life from flying debris.

There could also be damage to buildings and trees, with road hazards and power cuts possible.

The severe weather warning has now been lifted.

In Hereford a patio table was blown into a tree on Greyfriars Bridge, posing a possible danger to passers-by. The bridge was shut for a short time while the fire brigade removed it.

Gales brought down trees at a house in Lower Bullingham, Hereford.

Sian Williams said her neighbours were trapped in their house.

"They had no help yesterday as Balfour Beatty [Herefordshire Council's contractors] don't work Sundays."

She said her neighbours had reported what she said were unsafe trees many times without success.

A tree on the line between Newport and Hereford caused delays of up to 45 minutes and there were warnings of cancellations until the end of service.

The Met Office says there will be a sunny start in Herefordshire today, with lighter winds than yesterday.

The cloud will thicken this afternoon as showery rain arrives from the west.

There will be often heavy outbreaks, with the risk of hail and thunder. Maximum temperature 10C.
