A TALENTED young footballer is gearing up for a huge battle off the pitch after being diagnosed with a deep-lying brain tumour.

Harry Williams had been complaining of headaches for weeks before he suddenly collapsed at home last month.

He was rushed to hospital where doctors made the shocking discovery before they carried out brain surgery on the 10-year-old from Weobley.

But complications surrounding the tumour’s deep location and the growth of a cyst meant surgeons were unable to remove all of the dangers.

So now the family hope proton beam therapy can be used to put Harry right.

Harry has been recovering at home after the first operation and his spirits were lifted when players from Hereford FC dropped by.

Jimmy Oates and Mike Symons delivered presents, including signed football boots and a shirt, after hearing of the young fan’s plight.

His mum Melissa said it had been a traumatic time for everyone but Harry has handled the last few weeks fantastically well.

The family is now waiting to hear if the next stage of his treatment can be performed in Manchester – or if the youngster will need to go abroad.

"Logistically it would be much easier for all of us if he could stay in England,” added his mum.

“But we will just have to go with the medical advice.

“Harry has been so good through it all.

"We are just hoping that he can overcome this and get back out on the football pitch one day.”

Chris Tipping, his coach at Belmont Wanderers, said all are desperately hoping their star player pulls through.

Due to his ability on the ball, Harry has played up a year and won several trophies, including boy of the season and coaches’ player of the year.

“But aside from that he is genuinely one of the nicest boys I’ve had the privilege of knowing and shows the utmost respect for all those around him,” added Mr Tipping.

“For him to have to go through all this just doesn’t seem fair.

"However knowing Harry he will have a smile on his face and plough forwards.”

A fundraising page has been set up for Harry’s family to help them through such a traumatic time.

It is hoped the money donated can also pay for a special treat for Harry should his health improve after his treatment.
