Anyone who has been even casually in touch with contemporary British folk music will be familiar with Alasdair Roberts. For 20 years he has been releasing acclaimed albums, mostly on the cool Drag City label out of Chicago - home to Bonny "Prince" Billy, Smog, and Pavement.

Alasdair is one of a rare breed of musicians whose work has found favour with aficionados of both experimental/avant-garde music and traditional/folk music – he has been the cover star of both Wire Magazine and fRoots Magazine.

A member of the award-winning Furrow Collective, and a keen collaborator - he has worked with Will Oldham, Jason Molina, Josephine Foster, Mairi Morrison and Karine Polwart amongst a great many others.

This gig offers the opportunity to see and hear him playing solo, performing original and traditional songs. Brought to you by the Ruralcore team (who put on the phenomenal gig at the Grapes in August with Zea, King Ayisoba and Haress) in collaboration with Canon Frome Court.

Support will be from local Weirdshire favourites Alula Down, who have a new album (Homespun) coming out in November, and from Bristol, Andy Skellam, excellent guitar picker and purveyor of beautiful and poignant songs.

A fantastic night of original and traditional songs, with an avant-folk leaning.

Alasdair Roberts will be at Canon Frome Court on Friday, November 16 at 7.30pm. To book visit eventbrite.co.uk
