A TRACTOR run in memory of Bob Lawrence was held on Sunday, September 9.

A total of 141 tractors arrived at Home Farm from all around the county; the drivers ready for their bacon butties.

Old and new tractors, tractors with cabs and air conditioning and those without, tractors with trailers and linkboxes and tractors with passengers.

Matt Jones, chairman of Allensmore Young Farmers Club led the tractors out of the field and Fred Lawrence brought up the end of the convoy about 20 minutes later.

The run took in Dewsall, The Rhydd, The Myndd, Orcop, Baggwyllydiart, Kentchurch, Pontrilas, Ewyas Harold, Whitfield Estate, Thruxton, Cobhall Common and back to Home Farm in Allensmore at around 4pm.

The farming community were tractor spotting naming Fordson Major, David Brown, Massey Ferguson, Fendt, Case, Fastrac, Valtra, New Holland and John Deere.

The hog roast and bar were ready for the return of the drivers and the many people who gathered to welcome them back.

The grand draw was made and followed by the auction. The boozy barrow made £240, the large teddy bear made £80, the holiday went for £450 and the rugby tickets raised £1,000.

The event has so far raised £12,300 with donations still coming in for the three charities - British Heart Foundation, Allensmore YFC and Wormside Agricultural Society.

The day was fantastic and so many people contributed to its success.

Organisers extend their thanks to all the landowners and everyone who supported the event by donating, helping and attending. Also to the Lawrence family for hosting such a wonderful occasion and what a fitting tribute to Big Bob who died on September 27, 2017.
