A HEREFORDSHIRE pub has been crowned the best for cider in the country.

The Crown at Woolhope scooped the Best Cider Pub award at the John Smith's Great British Pub Awards on September 6.

The Herefordshire local beat off competition from pubs all over the UK at the prestigious ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

Matt Slocombe, landlord of the Crown, said: "We are so thrilled to be crowned the Best Cider Pub for the third year.

"What a measure of the consistency the team produce and we are so delighted to continue to put Herefordshire cider and perry on the map."

This is the third time the Woolhope pub has won this prize, with the award celebrating the pub's offering of 36 local ciders and perries, all sourced within 15 miles of the pub's location.

Ed Bedington, editor of the Morning Advertiser which organises the awards, said: "By winning one of out awards, The Crown at Woolhope has shown it really is one of the UK's finest."
