THREE county vicars who starred in a popular TV documentary will talk to an audience at The Courtyard about what has happened since the cameras left.

A Vicar's Life was screened on BBC2 earlier this year and the series had higher viewing figures than Songs of Praise and the total average attendance at Sunday services across the Church of England.

Three of the four vicars from the series, Nicholas Lowton, Ruth Hulse and Matthew Cashmore, will talk to an audience at the Hereford theatre about their faith and behind the scenes on the documentary.

The evening called A Vicar’s Life Live! on September 8 will be a joint fundraiser for The Courtyard and Hereford Diocese.

The Bishop of Hereford Richard Frith said: “I’m delighted that three of the vicars well-known from the documentary series are taking to the stage to share with people what it means to be a Christian and how their faith impacts their outlook on life and their relationships with those they meet.

“All our vicars and church members play an incredibly valuable role in communities large and small and it’s wonderful that this charity event will further highlight this and take the Christian faith out into places where people wouldn’t necessarily expect to encounter it.”

Revd Lowton will talk about his wish for people to know as much about Jesus’s life as they do of his birth, Revd Hulse will explain how the church needs to reach out to young people and Father Matthew will discuss how small acts of good change the world.

The event will also feature a guest performance from Christian vocalist April Shipton from Ross-on-Wye.

Rural Dean and vicar of the Black Mountains group of parishes Revd Lowton said: “I’m amazed by the response worldwide to the whole show, with some really good links formed with young people across the Atlantic and Africa.

“The tourism industry here has benefitted from it and I’ve met a number of people, either through dog walking or taking services who have come to the area because they saw it on the telly.”

Revd Hulse, a vicar in West Hereford, added: "People seem to have taken the series to heart and have been very generous in their comments.

"There has definitely been an increase in people talking to me about a sense of calling to ordination, which is really exciting.”

A Vicar’s Life Live! will be at The Courtyard on September 8 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12. To book tickets call 01432 340555 or visit www.courtyard.org.uk.
