A PROJECT to prove the power of electrical modes of transport is edging closer to completion.

But organisers need help and have set up a Crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to film the project in action.

Fred Spaven from Bartonsham has converted a 1961 British-built Royal Enfield ‘Bullet’ from petrol into an electric bike.

He aims to travel from Land’s End to John o’Groats in October to prove the power of electric - the bike which he has nicknamed the Charging Bullet has a 75 mile range.

Fred has joined with filmmaker Finn Varney and they hope to raise enough money to film the 1,200 mile journey.

Fred said: “I have completed a test ride which went really well. I have had no major setbacks on the bike front.

“We just need to get the money together to be able to do the film.”

The route is peppered with fellow engineers and inventors: hydrogen car builders, electric super-bike racers and biogas bus boffins: pioneering the sustainable transport technologies for a cleaner future. It means enthusiastic inventors are eager to share their great work - and a charging point.

Twelve batteries fit into the bike’s custom made laser-cut steel subframe, with a further six in panniers boosting the touring range for the expedition.

Fred’s long-term vision for the bike is commuting.

The campaign will raise funds to cover the essential journey expenses which make the expedition and documentary possible. With rewards ranging from a day riding pillion, through to world premiere cinema tickets, film credit thanks, t-shirts and other goodies - and with commercial sponsorship options - the team ask you to pledge your support on Kickstarter today.

The film is being submitted to film festivals in Europe. To offer your support go to charging-bullet.co.uk/support
