THE main road between Hereford and Abergavenny was closed today after a lorry hit a railway bridge.
Police officers were among the emergency services called to the A465 at Pontrilas shortly before 5pm.
Writing on Twitter, the police said the road was closed after a lorry hit the low bridge.
Motorists were asked to take alternative routes. There are warning signs alerting drivers of high vehicles to the 4.4metre height of the bridge - and alternative routes via Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth are signposted.
The 4.56pm Stagecoach bus service between Pontypool and Pontrilas was cancelled as a result of the accident but it is understood rail routes were not affected.
The road reopened this evening and there are, as yet, no updates with regards to any injuries sustained.
