A DAIRY farmer whose farm is also home to a football academy hosted an event for World Milk Day.
NFU member Andy Bevan has a football academy at his farm in St Weonards and staged an under 9s tournament last Friday with nine teams competing.
Andy is a football coach at Westfields FC who during the 2016–17 season qualified for the first round of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.
The NFU and County Milk, the farm’s milk buyer, teamed up for the event on Friday to promote positive, nutritional messages about dairy.
This is all part of a wider campaign to link World Milk Day with sport and athletics, especially relevant this year due to the football World Cup starting in a few weeks.
The teams played for the inaugural NFU Milk Cup and the eventual winners were the Ledbury Swifts.
World Milk Day was first established in 2001 by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations to help raise awareness of the dairy sector.
