HERDS from Hereford-shire and Worcestershire took top honours when members of the Hereford Cattle Breeders' Association announced the results of the Hereford Herd Competition.
This year's contest drew a record number of entries from 28 herds for the judge John Douglas of Ervie Herefords, Stranraer. His mammoth task involved studying in close detail the merits of more than 4,000 cattle in Herefordshire, Worcester-shire, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
Members of the association viewed this high entry as being a sign of enthusiasm and popularity of the Hereford breed currently.
A reception for breeders was held at S W Quan and Co's Border Herd.
