THE British Red Cross has launched appeals to help flood victims with both cash and practical help.

The charity's national flood appeal for money was launched on Tuesday and today, a local appeal for the stricken three counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire, is underway.

This aims to support the recovery of people, families, communities and organisations from the impact and consequences of floods in the three counties.

Immediate needs have been identified as: blankets and sleeping bags, bottled water, food, hygiene items for personal use and for babies e.g. Nappies, toothbrushes, sanitary products, clean, dry overnight accommodation, emotional support and befriending.

Donations can be taken immediately to Hereford BRC Office in Blackfriars Street or at 34 St Owen Street.

A designated telephone and e-mail helpline service will operate from from 9am to 5pm from tomorrow (Thursday), July 26 to Friday, August 10 (including weekends).

Through a helpline, the charity will act as a broker, putting those in need in contact with those offering support.

Red Cross vehicles, staff and volunteers are pledged to deliver practical and emotional support directly to individuals and communities.

The helpline number is 01905-450407 and the e-mail address is floodhelp@redcross.org.uk
